Hydrogen On Demand

Researchers at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology have developed a new method for producing hydrogen from water using solar energy.  If successfully developed, their approach would make it possible to produce hydrogen in a centralized manner at the point of sale such as at a fueling station for hydrogen-powered cars.

Climate Change And Fish

According to a recent study published in the journal Global Change Biology, rising CO2 levels in the ocean can disrupt the sensory systems of fish and can even make them swim toward predators and ignore the sounds that normally deter them from risky habitats.

Plastic From Milk

These days, many of the foods we buy, such as meat, bread, cheese and snacks –  come wrapped in plastic.  We end up with lots of non-recyclable, non-biodegradable waste.  And thin plastic films are not even that great at preserving food because oxygen still gets through them.

Snow season is here.  The chances are good you’ll find yourself behind a truck spreading salt on the roads in an attempt to deice them. You may even try a little salt on your own front porch. Annually we spread about 20 million tons of road salt in the U.S., and we’ve been doing it since the late 1930s.

Counting Trees

A new satellite study led by Yale University and published in the journal Nature calculates that there are more than three trillion trees on Earth.  This is seven and a half times more than previous estimates, which had calculated just over 400 billion trees worldwide.
